Six Decades Strong

As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the POSSE, we want to express our gratitude for your continued support!

60th logo

For the past 60 years POSSE members have served as the lifeblood of OSU Athletics. In 2023-24, membership reached 9,656 coast to coast, including Canada and Puerto Rico! Total giving to the POSSE reached $48.6 Million, up over $8 million from year to year. During the same span, Cowboy VIP membership surpassed 500 members for the first time ever with 557. On campus, members of our Student POSSE (All Sports Pass holders) included nearly 14,000 rowdy fans.

Providing Opportunities for Scholastic and Sports Excellence has never been more true. As we embark on some of the most unprecedented times in the history of collegiate athletics, providing an elite level experience for OSU student-athletes has always been the mission of the POSSE and will continue to be for the next 60 years.

History

Vintage posse graphic

The POSSE was formed in 1964 by five OSU graduates with the premise of helping persuade young football talent to attend OSU. The first meeting was held in 1964 at Whit's Café in Oklahoma City. The five decided on the name “The Posse Club” and elected officers. They began having meetings and charging dues to increase membership and raise money. The “Deputy” was the president, while the officers and board of directors were the “Sheriffs.”

Now, six decades later, the OSU POSSE is more than 9,000 members strong. Several of the original members remain loyal season ticket holders and strong donors to the organization they pioneered. Since its inception, the POSSE has been the home of Oklahoma State University's most loyal and devoted fans.

As the cost of higher education and maintaining a successful athletic program continues to escalate, sustained private contributions are critical. Funds raised by the POSSE support over 500 Cowboy and Cowgirl student-athletes through scholarships (including tuition, fees, room, board and books) on an annual basis.

Donations to the POSSE also supplement general operating costs, maintenance and upkeep of facilities and budget support for individual sports. With OSU Athletics relying primarily on revenue from donations, donor seating and ticket sales to meet budget needs, the POSSE is the lifeblood of the program. Members have a choice of varying donation levels (beginning with $150 annually) and may qualify for multiple benefits such as gameday parking, premium seating and eligibility for post-season tickets.

You may renew your tickets and pay your POSSE contribution at the same time by calling the Athletics Ticket Office (877-ALL-4-OSU). A representative can assist you in both processes with one phone call. You can also renew your tickets and POSSE donations online here.

A number of convenient payment plans are available. Your scheduled donation may be paid out automatically via credit card or bank draft

POSSE benefit packets are distributed in August, prior to the first home football game.

POSSE members receive benefits for donations made from July 1-June 30 (aligned with the OSU fiscal year). Benefits will be issued during the next sports/academic year.

Example: Pete already has 2024 football season tickets. His seat contribution is due no later than June 30, 2024, earning benefits (such as parking) for the 2024 football season. In September of 2024, Pete purchases Wrestling season tickets.

Any required contribution will be credited to the current Wrestling season (rather than be applied toward the next giving year). All other gifts — except seat contributions — made after the June 30 deadline will be applied to the 2025 giving year, unless part of a prior payment plan.

Seat upgrades for all venues will be handled during the renewal process for that particular sport season. Details will be delivered prior to the season.

Gifts made to the POSSE are valued at 3 Priority Points per $100 donated and will continue at this rate. Planned giving receives 1 point per $100.

  • Each account may receive, one time, 10 points for each; O-Club, Faculty/Staff and Alumni status
  • POSSE membership receives 1 point per year
  • Season Tickets receive 1 point per season tickets held per sport per year

Gifts to OSU Athletics are made payable to the OSU Foundation.

The Oklahoma State University Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation organized under the General Corporation Act of the State of Oklahoma.

The Foundation has qualified as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.

Gifts made to the Foundation are deemed to be made to a qualified organization and are deductible under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation is a separate and distinct legal entity from Oklahoma State University.

If your gift is tax-deductible, it is receipted and acknowledged by the OSU Foundation in the calendar year it was made.

Previously, federal tax law allowed seat-related donations to be 80 percent deductible for tax purposes. In 2018, a change in federal law repealed this deduction.

As a result, seat-related donations are no longer deductible. We encourage you to contact your tax adviser if you have any questions about this change in tax law.

For additional information, please consult with your tax adviser.

Gifts to OSU Athletics may be made by credit card, check or cash.

Donations may also come in other forms, including real estate, stocks or personal property, as well as planned gifts such as endowments, life insurance, bequests, trusts, annuities and gifts of securities. Please consult your tax adviser to assist you with your planning.

Donations received may be transferred to Cowboy Athletics, Inc. in accordance with the Joint Resolution among Oklahoma State University, the Oklahoma State University Foundation, and Cowboy Athletics, Inc.
